48 arrested for Jhb CBD crime

Johannesburg police arrested 48 people for crimes ranging from attempted murder to armed robbery in the CBD, a spokesman said on Sunday morning.

Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said colleagues in the Johannesburg central sector policing unit rounded up three people for common robbery, three for attempted murder, two for armed robbery, one for possession of a stolen vehicle, two for possession of suspected stolen property, and one for impersonating the police from Friday.

Eleven people were arrested for shoplifting. The others waiting in cells for their court appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court were arrested for fraud, assault, rape, possession of dagga, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property, selling liquor without a licence, theft, and drunk driving.
