Wednesday brings with it a solitary by-election in the Eastern Cape, the Independent Electoral Commission have announced.
Ward 5 of the Camdeboo Municipality in Graaf-Reinet is set to be contested by the ruling ANC and official opposition, the DA.
IEC spokesperson Kate Bapela said on Tuesday that the ward would be contested by Izak Reid of the ANC and Glenda Christina Mackelina of the DA.
The ward was previously represented by DA councillor, Jesmine Swemmber, but then became vacant when her party membership was terminated.
Bapela said voter turnout for the ward in Graaf-Reinet during the 2011 municipal elections was 51.66 percent.
Municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the North West on Wednesday. The by-elections are being contested by a total of 18 candidates, representing four political parties. Two wards are uncontested.
