Principal ‘shoots’ man over results dispute

According to Tonga police spokesperson Lieutenant Mzwandile Nyambi, the suspect shot 29-year-old Nkosingiphile Mkhabela in the stomach on Wednesday evening, Mpumalanga News reported.

The man appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrates’ court on Thursday, facing on a charge of murder.

Mkhabela had allegedly accused the suspect of being responsible for his (Mkhabela’s) brother failing at school. An argument ensued and the suspect withdrew a fire-arm and fatally wounded Mkhabela.

“The police were summoned to the scene and the victim was certified dead by the emergency medical services officials,” Nyambi said.

The suspect then handed himself over to police shortly after the incident.

“A case of murder has been opened at Tonga police station and it is under investigation. The suspect handed himself over to the Police yesterday immediately after the incident,” he added.

He is due to appear again on 16 March.
