“It is our duty, for all of us to defend the ANC, but young people are poised to fight”.

President Jacob Zuma has called on the youth of the African National Congress to defend the party whenever it comes under attack.

“You [ANCYL] have the energy and cannot stand around while the ANC is under attack, you need to defend the ANC,” Zuma said at the party’s birthday celebrations in Rustenburg.

“It is our duty, for all of us to defend the ANC, but young people are poised to fight whatever challenges the ANC faces now that our movement is under attack.”

He urged young people to use social media and other chat platforms to advance the voice of the ruling party.

“You must be upfront as the youth league. Don’t be afraid of reactionaries.”

Zuma congratulated the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) for establishing a young women’s desk in Bloemfontein, Free State this week.

“We congratulate the ANCWL. This is how the ANC will keep themselves relevant.”

The ANCWL faced criticism regarding its inability to attract young women in recent years.
