Three men were arrested for allegedly stealing underwear worth about R90,000 from a factory in Crown Extension, near central Johannesburg, on Thursday, police said.

“A group of about 15 men, travelling in a truck, held up the manager and staff at the factory and robbed them of cash and other personal belongings,” Warrant Officer Gordon Billing said.

“The suspects also forced staff to load 130 boxes of male and female underwear, valued at about R90,000, into their truck.”

By the time police arrived, 12 of the robbers had escaped with the truck. The three men, aged between 38 and 43, were still there. They were found in possession of three unlicensed firearms and keys to a car parked at the factory.

Billing suspected the men were left behind and intended using it as a getaway car. The car was stolen in Bedfordview last year.

The three face charges of business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. They would appear in the Newlands Regional Court soon.
