It’s alleged the man snatched the baby from her bed on Tuesday evening while the baby’s mother and grandmother were watching television in the next room, according to IOL.

The man was later cornered by community members who reportedly threatened to kill him, but were stopped by the grandmother, who pleaded for his life.

According to her, he was mentally unstable. The suspect was apparently involved in an altercation with the police a week ago and was shot twice during the incident. He allegedly tried to stab a police officer while resisting arrest. He was admitted to hospital after the incident, but then ran away.

The infant was brought to the hospital around 2am on Wednesday and is fighting for her life in a Kimberly hospital this morning after having undergone emergency surgery.
