A train hit a minibus taxi in Umgababa near Durban but passengers “miraculously” escaped serious injury, paramedics said on Thursday.

The taxi was crossing a railway line on the R102 on Wednesday evening when the train hit it, said ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson.

“The taxi was found to have been pushed right off the tracks, and the impact appeared to have only been to the very rear of the taxi.”

Passengers in the back seat suffered minor injuries.

“They were miraculously not badly injured,” said Jackson.

“The remaining occupants of the taxi were not injured and after being assessed they left the scene privately.”

On Sunday night, two people were killed and 18 others injured when a train hit a minibus on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.
