An application by Johannesburg hawkers is not urgent, the High Court in Johannesburg ruled on Wednesday.

“The matter is struck off the roll for lack of urgency,” Judge Ramarumo Monama ruled.

The hawkers had made an urgent application for an order that they be allowed to return to their trading spots in the inner city.

The City of Johannesburg started a process of verifying hawkers in the city centre. As a result hawkers were removed from their trading spots on Johannesburg’s pavements.

Monama ordered that the city and the hawkers’ association pay their own legal costs.
