A farm owner accused of attempted murder after he allegedly shot and wounded a teenager has appeared in the Ladybrand Magistrate’s Court, Free State police said on Wednesday.

The case against Motlalentoa Alfred Makoae, 53, was postponed on Tuesday to December 9, Sergeant Martin Xuma said.

Makoae, currently out on R1500 bail, owns a farm that borders Lesotho.

He was arrested on November 6. He allegedly saw five youths, aged between 13 and 15 hunting on the farm with sticks and dogs on October 28.

Xuma said the farm owner shouted at the boys to leave his property and they ran away. While chasing the boys away the man allegedly fired three shots in their direction. A 15-year-old was struck in the back.

The teenager and Makoae are both from Lesotho.
