Newly appointed minister of Corporate Affairs David van Rooyen says he understand and support decisions that have been made by President Jacob Zuma in recent times.
This week, Van Rooyen made headlines after Zuma appointed him as Minister of Finance, replacing Nhlanhla Nene. As a result of the reshuffle in the Ministry concerned, the local rand currency also dipped to its lowest amid calls for the President to either be recalled or to resign.
Van Rooyen was within days replaced by former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. “Our president placed the country first and I am ready to assume my new responsibilities and implement mandates aimed at accelerating service delivery,” Van Rooyen said.
He was making his first official address since assuming his new responsibilities.
