The case against Nokuthula Gumede, 23, and her Mozambican boyfriend Fernando Sidanvo, 35, was postponed to November 26.
This was to give police time to verify the couple’s residential addresses before their bail application.
Sidanvo told the court he came to South Africa in 1994 and lost his residence permit and his passport when his shack was ransacked by angry residents in Diepsloot.
The baby was found dead and mutilated in a shack in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg, last week.
Gumede was arrested in a Randburg tavern last week, and Sidanvo in Diepsloot the following day.
