One of the robbers pressed the intercom at the gate several times to see if anyone was home.

CCTV footage shows two robbers attempting to steal a gate motor in General Alberts Park on the East Rand on Tuesday, Alberton Record reported.

In the footage, a man is seen climbing out of a white vehicle that is parked in front of a house in Mopanie Street.

The suspect then rings the intercom several times, seemingly relaxed and trying to ascertain that no one was home. His accomplice gets out of the vehicle a few minutes later to help him break the gate’s rail. He then approaches the gate motor and starts tampering with it while the other man keeps watch.

As the alleged robbers gained entry to the property a neighbour spotted them and the suspects quickly got back into their vehicle and fled.

CPS security spokesperson Tyrone van der Merwe urged residents to contact the police if they see the vehicle with the registration number BY 86 JJ GP.

Gate motor theft seems to be on the rise.

Last month, CCTV footage emerged showing suspects stealing the gate motors at a school – twice in one week.

Laerskool Krugersdorp-Noord was first targeted on October 20 when two males and a female broke into the school’s premises at 3am that morning and stole the motor of the main gate.

Four days later, the same group returned and stole the motor at the gate near the sports field at about 6am.
