Man held for Rhodes Park murders

Man held for Rhodes Park murders will appear at Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

A 24-year-old man, who faces charges of murder, rape and attempted murder, will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court today over the recent killing of two men and attempted murder of two women at Rhodes Park, Kensington, Gauteng police have confirmed.

“A person who was detained for questioning on Friday morning in Yeoville has now been linked tothe scene, where two men were murdered and a woman raped at Rhodes Park,” Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said. “He will face charges of murder, rape and attempted murder.

While a manhunt is still continuing for the other suspects, the arrest may lead the police closer to the arrest of other suspects.

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the whereabouts of the suspects to come forward. Any information may be forwarded to Crime Stop at 08600-10111 at all hours.” Last month, two couples were attacked by 12 suspects.

One woman was raped and the other escaped. Their partners were tied up and thrown into lake, where they drowned.
