The flight (BA6234), which was scheduled to fly from OR Tambo to Port Elizabeth, has reportedly not crash landed according to Airports Company of South Africa (Acsa) spokesperson Colin Naidoo, who has said that “we don’t know the reasons (for the failure) so far”.

Flights have been delayed by between 15 and 30 minutes thus far at OR Tambo.

Comair – the company controlling the South African BA franchise as well as low-cost flyer Kulula – have spoken to The Citizen and, in a statement, said: “We can confirm that all passengers and crew safely disembarked with no reported injuries. Passengers have been taken to the terminal building, where staff are on hand.

“Comair and the relevant authorities will be conducting the necessary investigation over the coming days and weeks”.
