Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said Sergeant NJ Magwaza, 42, was shot dead at his home in eNtumeni at around 1.30am, Zululand Observer reported.

It is believed Magwaza was stationed at the president’s Nkandla homestead and was off-duty at the time when he was shot by an unknown suspect,” added Zwane.

He said the suspect also tried to torch the rondavel in which Magwaza had been sleeping but the fire was extinguished.

“eShowe police are investigating a case of murder but no arrests have been made. The Richards Bay Organised Crime Intelligence unit has also responded to the incident,” added Zwane.
