Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said they were arrested on Saturday after six of the ten cattle were found at the former captain’s farm.

“Between 6 and 7 November, a 29 year-old shepherd from Clerkwell farm reported that 10 cattle were stolen on the farm.”

It was alleged that there were supposed to be 84 cattle, but only 74 could be accounted for.

The matter was reported to the stock theft unit, which “followed information to Juliana farm, known as Lefu, whereby cattle are bought and sold”, he said.

“At the farm the shepherd managed to identify six of the cattle stolen at Clerkwell…” he said.

“The team will try to link the suspects with other stock theft cases which were undetected in the Harrismith area.”

He said the three would appear in the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
