Spokesman Sizwe Pamla said the issues included deteriorating governance standards and irresponsible management of the university.
“The isolation of certain council members, muzzling of stakeholders and the management’s penchant to take decisions with minimal consultation is a cause for concern,” he said.
Pamla accused the university’s management of disregarding procedures and practices encouraging good governance.
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) demanded an investigation of allegations that the university’s principal was related to its council’s chairman.
TUT spokeswoman Willa de Ruyter said university management would study the memorandum and provide Nehawu with feedback within the agreed time frame.
“The university’s management remains committed to engaging with both recognised unions, and encourages organised labour to make use of the established forums for negotiation before resorting to protest action,” she said.
