A man has been arrested after he allegedly shot and wounded his wife and killed her colleague in Rustenburg, North West police said on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old man tried to call his wife to fetch him from work on Monday, but she did not answer, said Captain Pelonomi Makau.

When he asked her about her whereabouts she told him that she had been with her male colleague at work.

The man was apparently enraged by the explanation and demanded to be taken to the colleague’s house in Tlhabane. When they arrived an argument ensued between the two men. Afterwards, the couple went back home, where they argued.

The man then allegedly took his gun and shot her in the thigh. She ran to a neighbour’s house for help. The husband drove to her colleague’s house, where he allegedly shot him several times in the lower body and head. He died on the scene.

The man handed himself to police and was expected to appear in the Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and attempted murder on Wednesday.

“The wife is recovering in hospital from gunshot wounds and shock,” said Makau.
