32 children injured in school bus accident

A school bus overturned onto its side on the R24 just outside the Krugersdorp nature reserve this morning.

The scene on the R24 just outside the Krugersdorp nature reserve this morning where a school bus carrying 32 children overturned onto its side.

ER24 emergency medical services spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said paramedics arrived on the scene just before 8am on Tuesday morning.

There were approximately 32 children on board, aged between 5 and 15, according to Jackson.

“Eight children suffered moderate injuries while the remaining patients suffered minor injuries only.”

Most of the children managed to free themselves from the wreckage or were assisted by their friends and fellow pupils. The driver also suffered minor injuries.

The paramedics treated all the injured on scene before transporting to hospitals in the area. A few of the children were collected by their parents on scene.

It is believed that no there were no other vehicles involved. Investigations will be conducted by authorities.
