Suspect wounded in shoot-out outside Pretoria school

An alleged robber was shot and wounded while two others were arrested after being cornered in a shoot-out with security guards outside a school in Centurion, near Pretoria on Tuesday afternoon.

Hugo Erasmus, head of the Lyttelton Sector 1 Community Policing Forum, said four men in a silver VW Polo robbed a house in Lyttelton Manor on Tuesday morning, and were allegedly in the process of robbing another in the Highveld area when they were interrupted, Rekord East reported.

“Monitor Net then picked up on this and pursued the men to Nellmapius Drive, when the driver stopped and  three  men jumped out and ran on foot and shot the Monitor Net officer at while the driver sped away,” said Erasmus.

He said Monitor Net members gave chase and shot one of the suspects in the leg near Cornwall Hill College. The other two were apprehended by security officers and handed to the Lyttelton police. The driver is still at large.

Braam Kruger of Emer-G-Med confirmed one man was treated on scene before being rushed to hospital.

Lyttelton police spokesperson Hero Gumbu said: “We are investigating a case of house breaking and attempted murder. The shot suspect is in hospital under police guard.”
