Cases of hijacking and kidnapping are under investigation after six holidaymakers were hijacked and taken by armed gunmen near Manguzi, in KwaZulu-Natal.

Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said five armed suspects hijacked the holidaymakers, who were en route to Mozambique, taking their vehicles with them still inside last Thursday, Zululand Observer reported.

“The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) was activated along the border, while police and Tracker undertook a search of the area,” he said.

Zwane added the victims were discovered at at about 1pm after locals found them in the bushes and took them to the Manguzi police station.

“The borderline was sealed off by SANDF forces while the search for the vehicles continued. The vehicles of the victims had not been recovered,” Zwane said.

No arrests have been made, and no serious injuries were reported.
