Necklacing continues in Etwatwa

A fourth person, believed to be a member of a gang in Etwatwa, was on Thursday morning necklaced, Ekurhuleni metro police confirmed. The latest incident comes barely days after three others were necklaced by a mob last weekend.

Speaking to The Citizen, metro police spokesperson, Clifford Shongwe said they were alerted about the incident just after 11am on Thursday.

“Upon arrival at the scene, we found the boy still burning and managed to extinguishe the fire before we rushed him to the nearest hospital,” said Shongwe.

The tire that was used to burn the boy, is the size of a tractor’s or that of a heavy duty vehicle.

Locals in the area, who did not want to be named, say the gang members have been terrorising community members, young and old.
