A 38-year-old foreign national has appeared in the Kwanokuthula Magistrate’s Court after he was arrested by the George police family violence, child protection, and sexual offences unit, Western Cape police said on Saturday.

The Ghanaian man allegedly committed several offences between August 31 and September 8 – when he was arrested – involving four girls aged between seven and 11 years old in separate incidents at his house, spokeswoman Captain Bernadine Steyn said in a statement.

“He was charged with exposure, or display, or causing exposure or display, of child pornography, or pornography to children, exposure or display of genital organs to children, attempted to commit sexual offences, and sexual assault,” she said.

On August 31, he allegedly “attempted to put his private part in the 11-year-old victim’s mouth”.

On September 1, he allegedly showed a pornographic DVD to two nine-year-old girls, and on September 2, he allegedly showed his private parts to a seven-year-old victim. On September 8 he allegedly asked three girls – two aged nine and one 11 years – to undress themselves.

His first appearance in court was on Thursday and he appeared again on Friday. The case was postponed until Monday for a bail application, Steyn said.
