The suspects were arrested on charges varying from murder, attempted murder, assault, and housebreaking and theft, to possession of unlicensed firearms, dealing in liquor without a licence, domestic violence, fraud, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, Western Cape policespokesman Captain FC van Wyk said in a statement.
Suspects were also arrested for, among other things, possession of a hijacked vehicle and rape. The focus on drunk driving led to 30 arrests.
Ten raids on liquor outlets resulted in the confiscation of 1272 bottles of alcohol worth more than R10,000. Illegal drugs seized included 52 parcels dagga, 337 “stops” of dagga, 147 sachets of tik, and 73 mandrax tablets, Van Wyk said.
Cluster commander Brigadier Vincent Beaton thanked his officers and the respective communities for a job well done during the past week.
