Families of SA Police Service officers killed in the line of duty gathered at the SAPS Memorial site at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Sunday for an annual commemoration event.

Between March 30, 2014 and April 1, 2015 a total of 63 police officers were killed in the line of duty – 56 were killed since January this year alone.

President Jacob Zuma is scheduled to deliver the main address at the event. Police Minister Nathi Nhleko and National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega are also present.

The SAPS said in a statement wreaths would be laid in honour of the “fallen heroes”.
