In a video clip posted by Intelligence Bureau, police vehicles and a chopper are seen chasing after the suspects’ vehicle. The vehicle is then pulled over and the suspects are arrested.
The chase led to the arrest of three men near the Jean Avenue off-ramp in Centurion on Thursday afternoon. The suspects were caught with suspected stolen bank cards in their possession, Rekord East reported.
Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said police received a tip-off about a brown Toyota Hilux bakkie travelling on the N14 in the direction Pretoria.
“The vehicle was reported as being suspicious. Lyttelton police responded and pulled the vehicle over at the Jean Avenue off-ramp. The vehicle and its occupants were searched and police seized 228 Capitec bank cards,” Weilbach added.
The trio aged 57, 42 and 38 will appear in court soon.
This comes after four suspected fraudsters were arrested after they were found with a stack of stolen SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) cards in Pretoria on Monday.
Tshwane metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said metro police officer stopped a vehicle driven in the oncoming traffic in Steve Biko Drive.
“The driver could not present his driver’s licence so he was pulled off the road. The vehicle was searched and officials found the suspected stolen Sassa cards linked to bank accounts with a collective credit of R40 500,” Mahamba added.
He said the men had already withdrawn a total of R7 000 using the cards.
