Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Mashadi Selepe said another man was arrested.

“The incident took place early Monday when police were following up on a lead. A scuffle ensued between the police and the two men and officers, one of them was fatally wounded.”

“The second man was arrested. A firearm stolen from one of the murdered officers was recovered,” said Selepe.

The officer was killed on Saturday after a woman approached him and his colleague during a routine patrol in Hillbrow. The woman told them that two people tried to rob her. Upon following up on the information, the officers approached two men, a scuffle ensued and shots fired.

One died and the other was recovering in hospital.

On Friday, another officer was shot and killed in Attridgeville, Pretoria when a woman approached him and randomly opened fire, police said. More than 50 police officers have been killed by suspected criminals this year alone.
