A 29-year old man was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for raping a 19-year-old woman in her house, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.

Captain Thulani Zwane said Manqoba Shandu was given the 10-year sentence in the Esikhawini Regional Court, near Richards Bay, on Wednesday.

Shandu broke into her home while she was sleeping on the night of February 2. He assaulted and raped her.

The woman reported the attack to police in Mtunzini.

The Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit successfully investigated the case.
