Police have issued a warrant of arrest for a man accused of murder and house robbery in Putfontein, east of Johannesburg.

The man had been linked to a house robbery and the murder of four elderly people, Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said on Monday.

“He and four of his accomplices attacked and assaulted four pensioners in their home in October 2011 and stole several items from the house,” said Dlamini.

Tom Benimadho, 73, was killed in the robbery, while Harilall Jagastry, 64, Jayapathy Narotham, 69, and Jyothi Singh, 60, were taken to hospital and died a few weeks later.

“A tip-off led the police to the man’s shack in Benoni where items that were stolen during the robbery were recovered.”

Dlamini said a warrant of arrest had been issued for him, and appealed to members of the community to assist police with information that would lead to his arrest.

Police would issue warrants of arrest for the other three men once their identities were known.
