Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said Khumbulani Madlala was sentenced on Tuesday to two life terms for killing Muzi Mnikathi and Mcebisi Duma while Msizi Majola and Mbopha Makhathini were each sentenced to life imprisonment for their role in the killing of Mnikathi.

“The heavy sentence handed down to the accused was welcomed by the South African Police Service and this will serve as a warning to other criminals who intend to do such crimes,” Zwane said.

In July 2010, 28-year-old Mnikathi was at his house when he was shot dead by the accused who fled the scene, Zwane said.

Zwane said a case of murder was opened at Estcourt police station.

On February 16, 2011, at around 6pm, Duma, 32, a prominent leader of Estcourt was driving his vehicle along Ntabamhlophe road when he was shot and killed by the accused.
