Robert McKenzie, the spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal provincial Emergency Medical Services, said that 12 shacks were destroyed in the blaze that swept through the informal settlement on Sea Cow Lake Road.

“Sadly two people have lost their lives in this fire,” McKenzie said. The eThekwini Fire Brigade contained the fire, which broke out in the early hours of the morning, preventing it from spreading to other areas.
