CCTV footage has emerged showing a group of suspected fake police officers hijacking a car in Mayfair, Johannesburg.

In the footage captured on Thursday, July 30 on the Corner 6th and Church Streets, the suspects’ vehicle is seen pulling over in front of the victim’s car at a traffic light.

Three suspects get out and one of them is seen approaching the passenger’s seat and seemingly produced some sort of identification.

The victim was ordered to the suspects’ vehicle while another suspect drives off in the victim’s car.

Facebook users reacted following the incident which unfolded as other cars are seen passing by.

Marie Jones said: “No care in the world, full view of everyone just stops car and helps themselves.”

“Can’t believe how calm they are, almost like they were cops cos the driver doesn’t panick or try get away at all,” Kurt Wucherpfennig said.

Willem Jnr Oosthuizen said: “But it looks like the guy on the passenger side flashed a badge through the window? Did they pose as police officers?”’

In a separate incident, a video clip surfaced showing the hijacking of a car in the Fordsburg area of Johannesburg.

The incident, which was captured on the vehicle’s dashboard camera, allegedly took place on Saturday, May 30, on Main Reef Road, near the M2 on-ramp.

In the video, four armed men driving a white VW Jetta with the registration DL65CLGP are seen emerging from the car and approaching the unidentified hijacked vehicle.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo urged anyone who could identify the alleged hijackers to contact police.
