A teenage girl was found dead at a guest house in Zeerust, North West police said on Sunday.

Major Pelonomi Makau said the girl, aged between 16 and 18, was found with several stab wounds on her body in a bathtub on Saturday. “It is alleged that the deceased, who wore a red jacket, blue T-shirt with an emblem of a local middle school, blue jeans pair of trousers, and black all-star sneakers was found inside an empty bathtub at the guest house,” he said.

“According to information the deceased and an unknown man who is suspected to be her boyfriend booked [in] at the guest house on Friday, at about [11am].”

The boyfriend was apparently last seen on Friday at about 2pm when he informed employees of the guest house that he was going to buy food in town. Makau said it was alleged the pair did not register at the guest house on arrival. Apparently they were known at the guest house because they had booked in on several occasions previously.

“On Saturday at about [11.30am] the guest house manager became suspicious when he realised that the two had not booked out from the room and went to check. Upon arrival at the room the manager discovered the deceased lying in a pool of blood in the bathtub.”

Makau appealed to anyone with information that may assist in identifying the deceased and the arrest of the suspect to contact Detective Constable Dithate on 073-007-6060 or Detective Constable Kalanyane on 072-748-1395.
