A case of murder has been opened after a man was killed in what is believed to be a drive-by shooting on the Harding/Kokstad road towards Marburg in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal.

Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said a young teenage girl was seen jumping out of the deceased’s vehicle while it was still moving up the hill. The vehicle reportedly came to a standstill when it crashed into a barrier on the side of the road yesterday at about 4.30pm.

“Police found heavy calibre gun cartridges and handgun cartridges on the scene. The door of the vehicle on the driver side had several bullet holes. The driver was found with multiple gunshot wounds, while the girl was rushed to hospital in a stable condition,” added Zwane.

He said the girl is believed to be related to the deceased. Police are looking for a white sedan vehicle that was seen speeding away from the scene.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and no arrests have been made.

In a separate incident, a man was shot dead in his driveway in Chatsworth, Durban, in April.

“A man tragically died in a shooting incident on Moorton Drive, Chatsworth, at about 6.20am,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

The man was allegedly on his way to work when his family heard a gunshot.

“When they ran out they found the man lying in the driveway, and his vehicle was missing. He died on the scene,” added Botha.
