Germiston police cluster communications officer Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi said the victim was playing with friends on July 10. When her mother returned at 5pm, she noticed her daughter was tense and struggling to walk, Germiston City News reported.
“The woman called the children and asked if they knew what was wrong with her daughter, as the child had burst into tears when asked what was wrong. She asked her neighbour to come and help her inspect the victim. When the neighbour came, they undressed the child and saw that she had been sexually violated,” added Mduduzi Nhlabathi.
“Police were summoned and the children were questioned and asked if they had witnessed anything while they were playing. They said the girl had been raped by a certain man that lived around the area.
“The children also gave a description of the clothes he was wearing as well as the physical appearance of the suspect, as they did not know his name,” said Nhlabathi.
He added police followed the leads and a 30-year-old man was arrested in his shack, where he had been hiding. The suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrates` Court last Wednesday and was remanded in custody pending further investigation.
Earlier this month, a 15-year-old girl was abducted from her home on Glenwood Road and raped in a nearby field by three men in Mbombela, Mpumalanga.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Leonard Hlati said the three suspects have been arrested but have not yet been charged. They had been taken in for questioning.
