Two long distance bus company employees are in police custody after officers found about R2 million worth of drugs hidden in a bus in the Cape Town CBD, police said on Sunday.

The two suspects, both 51 years old, were nabbed on Saturday as the bus they were travelling in arrived at the Cape Town long distance bus terminal centre from Gauteng.

“During the crime intelligence driven operation a search warrant was obtain and utilised by Cape Town Central police members with the assistance of Rapid Railway members,” police spokesperson Andre Traut said.

“During the search of the bus 2kg heroin, 2kg cocaine, 2kg dagga compressed with cocaine and packs of dagga wrapped in plastic with an estimated street value R2 million. The drugs were hidden inside the bus at the drivers compartment area.”

The two suspects, both from Gauteng, were expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday on charges of dealing in drugs.
