“The gruesome discovery was made on Thursday. The remains were found by construction workers who were installing [an] electric fence on the side of the road,” said Free State police spokesperson Captain Chaka Marope.

“The skeleton was still dressed in a pair of beige trousers, a grey t-shirt and black Lacoste shoes.” The skeleton, which remains unidentified, was discovered along Brandfort Road in Bloemfontein.

“According to preliminary investigation on the scene, the deceased is suspected to be a male person who had died two years ago,” said Marope.

“Further investigation will be conducted to determine the identity of the deceased through DNA tests.”

Marope added that police registered a case of inquest for further investigation and that the Parkweg police were requesting assistance from the public for any further information.

Additionally, any family who had reported a missing person in the past two years were requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Khaile Mathibela on 082 779 8868.
