One person was killed and at least 17 other people were injured in a crash involving a minibus taxi on Friday morning near Pinetown, Durban.

KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate spokeswoman Zinhle Mngomezulu said the accident took place on the N3 in the Paradise Valley area. Mngomezulu said a minibus taxi and VW Golf collided. The driver of the golf was killed, while all of the 17 injured were the occupants of the minibus taxi.

She said the 17 injured were all taken to RK Khan Hospital. Mngomezulu said the cause of the accident was not immediately known, but it was believed that the driver of one of the vehicles had lost control.

Durban-bound rush hour traffic was severely disrupted as the fast lane was closed while authorities cleared up the accident scene.
