Couple, dog stabbed during house robbery

A couple and their dog are reportedly recovering after they were stabbed during a house robbery in Trafalgar, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday.

It is alleged two men, armed with knives, entered the house and attempted to rob the occupants. The couple fought back, and in the process, both were stabbed, South Coast Herald reported.

The couple`s brave dog, Honey, jumped in to protect her owners and was also stabbed. KwaZulu Private Ambulance spokesperson, Belinda Catchpole, said paramedics found the man and his wife with multiple stab wounds.

“Once the patients were treated, the paramedics assisted by taking Honey to a vet in Port Edward, who stabilised her. The dog is recovering at the vet,” added Catchpole.

The robbers fled with various items. Margate police have confirmed the incident and are searching for the two men.

In a separate incident, a suspect was fatally shot, while two officers, a police dog and a second suspect were wounded in a shootout in Ntuzuma, KwaZulu-Natal, in February.

KZN VIP spokesperson Romano Naidoo said there was an exchange of gunfire, where two officers were hit, and a suspect sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

The officers are in a stable condition, while the police dog from the Dog Unit is believed to be in a critical condition. The condition of the injured suspect is unknown.
