A Johannesburg man was wounded when he was shot during an argument in Diepsloot on Monday, Gauteng police said.

The man, 28, who was thought to be a taxi driver, was standing with other taxi drivers at 7am when a silver-grey Mercedes-Benz drove up, said Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela.

An argument ensued between the taxi drivers and the occupants of the car, one of whom opened fire, hitting him in the lower body.

Paramedics stabilised the man on the scene before taking him to a nearby hospital.

A case of attempted murder would be investigated.

“We suspect that this incident is related to the taxi drivers’ strike, which left hundreds of Diepsloot commuters stranded this morning,” Mavimbela said.
