CT cops arrest 86 in anti-crime sting

Authorities in Cape Town on Saturday arrested 86 people during a large security operation on the station precinct which formed part of the government’s operation Fiela anti-crime campaign.

In a statement, police said: “South African police service members, traffic officials, Metro police, brand specialists, immigration officials and South African National Defence Force members descended on the Cape Town station deck today between 10am-2pm as part of Operation Fiela.

“Counterfeit goods to the value of R150,000 were confiscated. Substantial amounts of dagga seized, one taxi impounded and 86 arrests effected. Of the arrests, 81 are undocumented foreign nationals, one was for possession of dagga, three for counterfeit goods and one for an outstanding warrant of arrest.”
