“Three road traffic fatalities were reported this weekend,” spokesman Kenny Africa said in a statement. He said two people, a man and woman, died in an accident in Knysna on Sunday, and a female passenger was killed in another accident in the Winelands on Friday.
Africa said 20 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, two drivers were arrested for excessive speeding and 2624 vehicles were stopped. He said a total of 12 879 vehicles were screened for speeding, of which 1629 speeding offences were recorded.
“A total of 227 fines were issued, for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness, to the amount of R 267 150.”
