The Chapman’s Peak Drive and Toll Plaza have been closed on Monday, until further notice after travelling has become dangerous due to heavy rains, the Western Cape transport and public works department said.

“The safety of motorists and other road users is currently the most important priority. The drive would be reopened once deemed safe for motorists and road users,” the department said in a statement.

“During the winter season, more road closures on the drive will be imposed due to unknown and possible risk factors.”

The department said that Entilini, who was managing the drive, would be monitoring the situation.
