12 robbers arrested in Mitchells Plain

Police in Cape Town have arrested 12 suspects who are believed to have robbed a shop in Mitchells Plain of cash and goods.

Police are looking for a head of a headless man.

Police spokesperson, Constable Noloyiso Rwexana ssaid in a statement: “On Wednesday, at about 03:00 police attached to Mitchells Plain arrested 12 suspects aged between ages 18 and 52 year old after a robbery occurred in Tafelsig.

“According to reports, a business robbery occurred at Rockies Street, Tafelsig, where suspects broke a security gate at the complainant’s shop and the owner was awoken by the noise. The complainant confronted the suspects and they pointed at him with a firearm.

“The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, cellphones, groceries, padlocks and cigarettes. Police received an anonymous tip-off and it led to the arrest of the suspects. The stolen goods were recovered and the suspects are due to appear on Friday in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on charges of house robbery and possession of presumed stolen property.”

In an unrelated incident, police arrested an 18-year-old man for house robbery which occurred on Tuesday in Kunene Street in Portlands, also in Mitchells Plain.

According to information, the suspect entered the house of the complainant and threatened her with a knife. The suspect took a cell phone worth R1,900 before fleeing the scene on foot.

“With the assistance of the community safety structures in Portlands, the suspect was apprehended the same day in a nearby street,” police said.

The suspect was due to appear on Friday in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on a charge relating to house robbery.
