Fifteen arrested in Manenberg Operation Fiela raids


A total of 15 suspects were arrested in Manenberg in early morning raids on Thursday which formed part of operation Fiela – a joint national operation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the army.

“The operation focused on drugs, illegal firearms and other criminal activities. The lock-down operation yielded significant results as one person was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition (9 mm pistol with serial number and make filed off, 51x 9mm live rounds),” police said in a statement.

“Fourteen wanted suspects were arrested for several cases,” police said. “One female suspect were arrested for possession of tik.”

The officers and soldiers continued to patrol the area after the raids.

The head of the Western Cape SAPS anti-gang strategy, Major General Jeremy Vearey, said similiar crime prevention operations would continue.
