Major Thulani Zwane said the ten, aged between 23 and 37 years old, were apprehended in an upmarket apartment in the Point area.
“Upon their arrival, members found ten occupants busy packing and sealing heroin in straws. Six sealing machines and 6000 straws of drugs were recovered. The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is R150,000.”
Zwane said all ten people were arrested and charged for dealing in drugs.
He said police had been following information of a drug syndicate which was operating in the area, “and finally a flat was identified and an intelligence driven operation was conducted”.
The suspects will appear at the Durban Magistrate’s court on Thursday.
Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, said: “If you’re a drug dealer in this province, you should always wonder if you are going to be in the next round-up because our officers will be coming after you. I must emphasise once more the importance of communities working with the police to make these arrests, as many of the breakthroughs are also the result of intelligence received from residents.”
