Biker ‘raped’ on Margate Beach

Police have yet to make an arrest have after a holidaymaker was allegedly raped on Margate Beach, in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal.

The woman from North West Province, who was attending Africa Bike Week in Margate, was reportedly sitting on the beach by herself at about 11pm on Friday when she was approached by a man, South Coast Herald reported.

“According to the woman, the man asked her for R10,” police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said.

“She told the man that she did not have money on her. He then asked her for her cellphone, to which the woman replied that she had left all her items at the holiday flat where she was staying,” he added.

The man then produced a firearm, forced the woman to undress and allegedly raped her. He then fled, taking only her biker jacket. The Margate Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit is currently still investigating the matter.

In a separate incident, a 29-year-old woman was allegedy raped at Ramsgate Beach in Margate on New Year’s Day.

According to police, the woman was at her workplace when a man known to her asked her to go with him to Margate Beach to celebrate the new year. On their way back, the man drove to Ramsgate Beach and allegedly raped the woman at gunpoint. She was later dropped off at Margate Beach.
