A 16-year-old Tembisa teenager is suspected of killing his six-year-old sister at their home in Kanana Section, Gauteng.

It is alleged the teen heard voices telling him to kill his sister. According to Rabie Ridge police spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo, the children’s mother left them at home and went to work on Wednesday, April 22, Kempton Express reported.

“It is believed the mother went to the créche after work to fetch her six-year-old daughter. When she arrived there, she was told her child had not been brought to the créche that day,” Nhlongo said.

She went home and discovered the child had been hanged, Nhlongo added. Paramedics were called, and the child was certified dead at the scene.

Nhlongo said a case of murder had been opened. The 16-year-old boy was arrested and since been released into the care of his parents.

In February, a 22-year-old woman from Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal died following a fight between her and her sister, a minor.

She died at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital after she had been rushed to the hospital two weeks before the incident.

The pair had allegedly been arguing and wrestling each other when the elder sister fell from the bed and hit her head on the floor.

She then began to convulse and was rushed to hospital the following day.
