A man was killed after he was knocked off his bicycle by a light motor vehicle on Thursday in Benoni, Gauteng, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said it was understood that the driver of the car failed to see the cyclist crossing the Putfontein Road. “Paramedics arrived on the scene and found the male patient lying on the side of the road 3 metres away from his bicycle,” he said in a statement.

Meiring said the light motor vehicle was parked 50 metres away from the cyclist. “It was discovered that the cyclist had sustained multiple fatal injuries in the collision, and nothing could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on the scene.”

The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries, he said.
