In a statement, police conducted firearm raids in the Kranskop and the surrounding areas and have recovered 20 unlicensed firearms and arrested a total of ten suspects. Recovered firearms include AK47 rifles, 303 rifles, shotguns and 9m pistols.
“I want to assure the community that we will continue to root out criminals in our society and will continue to tighten the screws on criminals. We will continue with such operations with the support from the community who give us valuable information about illegal firearms in their areas.
“I also commend all members involved in such operations and encouraged them to continue with their good work,” said provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
The recovered firearms will be taken to ballistics to ascertain if they were used in any commission of the crime in the country.
The three suspects, aged between 41 and 49 are due to appear in the Kranskop Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
